I often get asked to re-model and re-invent old, broken and unused jewellery, this is always a very exciting process and one that I always work closely with my client to complete, always ensuring I meet their brief wherever possible.

Some heirlooms or unused, once love jewellery items are perfect for re-modelling and some need a bit more thought and imagination. If you fancy having some new jewellery made using some old treasure, some things to consider and be prepared for are:

Whether the existing stones are damaged or cut in an old style, design and setting options may be limited - I can advise.
Whether existing metals are too mixed to be melted down to start again, sometimes scrapping it and starting again is more cost effective.
Know what you like. Consider when the piece of jewellery will be worn (ie. every day or on a special occasion). Gathering some images together can be real useful for me to understand your ideas.
Know your budget and your deadline. If you're lucky, you may already have all the metal and stones needed to work with but it may be the design and making that takes the time to plan, make and complete.

It's easy for me to take a quick look at old jewellery (photos are fine initially) , and see if it may be possible to re-invent it in to something new, and at this point I can also give you an idea of how much this may cost and how long it will take. Old jewellery reinvented to make these handmade diamond rings

This is a great way to use old jewellery, these small diamonds and small amount of gold from an old ring have been made in to two gold settings on new silver bands. A cost effective way of re- inventing and modernising old jewellery.

Before ...

A customer came to me with some family gold and a beloved ruby ring.

During ...

I transformed the gold and used the head from the ruby ring.

The result - Yellow and Rose Gold Trio Ring

I transformed the gold and used the head from the ruby ring to create a yellow and rose gold trio. I was delighted with them and best of all, the customer was too! Each ring was then engraved and are warn every day to remind her of her family present and past.

A simple Diamond pendant made from an old ring

This is a really simple diamond pendant I made using the diamond from an old ring. It has given it a completely new modern feel. Really simple and cost effective.

A gold pendant made from a customers old jewellery

This necklace has been made out of an old blue Topaz pendant and an old gold diamond ring. I used a new chain but made the settings from the gold from the old pieces.

This customer loved his skull pendant that we cast using his heavy gold ring. It's not always possible to cast using old gold, but sometimes it's works a treat!

This is a platinum pendant using diamonds from an old ring, a simple elegant pendant which shows the diamonds off perfectly. It as a pleasure to make.

Old Diamonds set in to a new contemporary ring design

These diamonds came out of an old claw set ring, setting them like this in a new ring has brought them back to life. Luckily these were good quality, nice and round and without any damage from their previous life. Some old diamond are just too unique to be set like this.
